NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5 Preview
By Prakash Narayan,Senior Engineering Manager,
Sun Java Studio Enterprise

Whether you are worried about launching your first SOA project or you are already engaged in the development of your enterprise's SOA implementation, the NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5 Preview will meet your needs. This Preview release provides application developers with the technical resources they need (including tools, runtimes, tutorials, blueprints, support and more) to model, implement, deploy, debug and test SOA-based projects.

The NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5 Preview includes an early-access version of Sun Java Application Server Platform Edition 9 Beta. This is the first Java EE 5 SDK that has been developed openly and transparently (in Project GlassFish).

This Preview release includes NetBeans 5.5, which provides the basis for developing Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5 applications, including web modules and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 3.0 modules. This means there is support for Java Persistence in web, EJB, and standalone J2SE applications. In addition, there are wizards for creating entities and persistence units. Wizards are also available for creating complete JavaServer Faces applications or application fragments based on entity classes.

A world-class UML modeling tool is bundled with the NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5 Preview. This allows for:
  • Full two-way, round-trip engineering from model to code
  • Markerless code (thus not modifying the original source code)
  • Language-independent, abstract modeling
  • Support for 9 diagram types and advanced layout algorithms
  • Requirements gathering
In addition, there are SOA visual design tools included in the NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5 Preview. The functionality includes:
  • XML schema tools to visualize and edit XML schemas and visualize the relationships between schema elements. There are also schema creation wizards.
  • Web services orchestration tools to author, build, deploy, and test BPEL processes. This includes a two-way editor and a BPEL runtime engine integrated with Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 9 Beta. This allows for creation of loosely coupled, service-based composite applications for SOA. There is also a full two-way round-trip designer. Process debugging is integrated into the NetBeans debugger.
In addition to the tools, the NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5 Preview offers documentation, tutorials, sample code, and BluePrints. There is also a forum where users can post questions. This forum is monitored by the development engineers, ensuring a high quality of responses.

Your entry into this exciting world of SOA development is through our Sun Java Studio Enterprise portal.
